  • Westwood, AKA the Little Church that Can, continues to serve our community and the larger community with a great variety of opportunities to Rest, Grow and Serve the World. Your Board is working on ways to advertise what we have to offer, from designing a paper brochure for newcomers entering the building, to advertising on a larger scale. In the meantime, you can always check the website’s calendar to see what is going on at Westwood.
  • Our next Building Connections potluck dinner will be held the evening of Saturday, November 30, with the theme of “Deep Connection”. These dinners are a wonderful opportunity to get to know a small group of Westwoodians by sharing a meal in someone’s home and participating in a meaningful discussion. Click here for the registration form or send an email to rebeccajpatterson@yahoo.ca. We are looking for a couple more hosts to offer their home for the event.
  • Winter Solstice is fast approaching, and we will be observing the four weeks of Solstice Advent starting this Sunday. The Westwood Comfort Tree is waiting for decorations of warm clothing items and toiletries for the Strathcona Neighbour Centre. You can bring items any time and hang them on the tree. If you like, you can also purchase grocery cards for donation to the Neighbour Centre.
  • Our Earth-Centred Group and Harmonia are already preparing a script and music for the Solstice Celebration on December 21st. They are asking for volunteers for many tasks, from decorating to serving refreshments, greeting at the door to reading, as well as setting-up beforehand and cleaning-up afterwards. Many hands make light (and joyful) work! Sign up online HERE or send an email to solstice@westwoodunitarian.ca.
  • PLEASE NOTE: To avoid over-crowding or having to turn people away, we are offering a limited number of free tickets on Eventbrite. Please register with Eventbrite by December 3rd HERE. The event will be kept private to Westwoodians until then. After that, tickets will be made available to the public. Bonus for Volunteers: if you are a volunteer, we will reserve your seat for you and you won’t have to book through Eventbrite.
  • Looking ahead to March, which is Stewardship Month, we are looking for someone to head up the campaign to encourage Westwood’s members and friends to pledge their time, talent and treasure. Could that someone be YOU? Please consider taking a leadership role in this important aspect of Westwood’s life and get in touch with a Board member to learn more. board@westwoodunitarian.ca.
  • Many thanks to Glen Niska-Aro, who consulted with Westwood’s next-door neighbour, Paul from Stripped Electrical, on the deteriorating and out-dated fluorescent lights in our building. Paul has offered to donate his time and materials to replace 10 of the old fluorescent lights in the office and the basement with long-lasting LED fixtures, as well as to mount a motion sensor light at the back of the building. We appreciate Paul’s generosity!
  • We would like to remind everyone that there are scam emails appearing in some of our inboxes that ask on behalf of a UU church or minister for you to purchase gift cards. Please report these emails as spam and delete them.
