Lots of news to share from your Board!

We had Jumpstart sessions May 31 & June 1 to be ready for the coming year.

The Board thanked outgoing trustees Carl Ulrich (who was not able to attend) and Maggie Davidson for their dedication to Westwood and welcomed new board trustee, Mitch Waldon.

  • Our theme for the 2024-25 season will be “Enhancing Life”!
  • Board meetings will be held on second Mondays (third Monday if there is a holiday).
  • Worship services continue until June 23 then we switch to in-person Serendipity services throughout the summer. These services are in person events, unless posted otherwise.
  • We are trying to keep things simple so there will not be an Open House in September, but new folk are always welcome to check us out anytime.

Remember to save some water for the Ingathering Water Communion service on September 8th.

And other Board news

  • The building will be undergoing two inspections in the next few months: one to alert us to maintenance issues and a separate one to update replacement values for insurance purposes.
  • The building will also be re-keyed sometime over the summer – it is a long time since we have done this.
  • A Papaschase tipi raising will hopefully take place in the fall when key leaders are available to teach everyone.

The June Lindgren room (the long side room) will be painted mid-July so we invite you to help clear things out at a brief Work Party around noon after the Serendipity service on Sunday, July 14th.

  • The Karaoke evening was great fun and although the crowd was a bit smaller than hoped the organizers were pleased with the funds raised for YESS.
  • We had hoped to reschedule the free tour of Kihcihkaw askî (sacred indigenous land) for this coming Sunday but have decided to hold off until we can communicate more effectively about a new date in the fall.

An Earth-Centred summer solstice ritual is not planned this year but we are quite sure the solstice will take place as expected. Take some time on June 20th to appreciate the longest day as another season turns.

Special events (Save the Date!)

  • Casino, July 3 and 4, 2024. Some volunteers still needed: check the Sign Up for available positions!
  • July 14 work party after the serendipity service to clear out the June Lindgren room in the basement.
  • Westwood Potluck Picnic – Sunday, August 25th
Will take place at the bright and colorful
    Riverdale House at 9928 – 92 St.
